Magpie #43

by jhon baker
this door is an affront to my senses
imagine Adam, seeing in vision, that which would befall man
brought by disobedience,
how his heart must have ached.

Amazing take on the prompt. It is really interesting that Fireblossom mentioned Eve in her poem. Adam and/or Eve would not be the usual impression to come from looking at a snow scene, but then neither of you are the usual poets!

You see what we wish we could see but do not have the “plow” to bore through the clutter.. Your take on this prompt is nothing short of extraordinary…

It didn't occur to me at the time, but as soon as I read the first line, all I could think was “yes.”

A door can be so many things,
    a portal, safety, sanctuary, lockout,
    home, garish, ugly, purple,
but an affront is something new,
    something dredged from a dark
place, or not, if you are like the
bird trapped as the door slammed
behind you, or Jim Bridger needing
the music of the mountains before
    he could slumber and dream.
    Excellent poetics, existential and
    biblical, moral and philosophic.

i'm left thinking about it all day.
